St. Stephen’s forms to be available from May 25

St. Stephen’s College will be completing it’s admission process earlier than before this year, in accordance with the Delhi University (DU) admissions schedule. The sale of admission forms for St. Stephen’s would begin on May 25. The last date of sale and receipt of forms is June 11.

The form can be purchased from the college counter or can also be downloaded and mailed, along with a demand draft. The aspirants can also submit the form online with a cost of Rs 50 per course.

St. Stephen’s College admits students on the basis of their class X, XII board results and a personal interview — carrying a weightage of 10%, 75% and 15% respectively. Apart from BA and BSc programmes, the college offers eight undergraduate honours courses that include economics, English, history, philosophy, Sanskrit, mathematics, chemistry and physics.

The interviews for shortlisted students will be held between June 16 and June 30. The admission process, except for the start of sale of forms, has been moved ahead by four days this year. All popular courses at St. Stephen’s witnessed an all-time high in cut-offs in 2009-10 admissions. The economics cut-off in the first list for science students was 95.75%, for commerce students it was 97% and for humanities 95%. For English (H), the science cut-off in the first list was 96%, for commerce it was 97% while for humanities students it was 92.5%. All scores are based on best of four subjects with one language.

Admission Eligibility

Qualifying Examinations

Qualifying examinations for the purpose of admission to the first year of undergraduate courses offered by the University shall be Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto.
Candidate seeking admission to the courses offered by the University should have passed the qualifying examination obtaining minimum marks as specified for each of the courses in  subsequent sections.

Age Requirement

There is no minimum age bar for admission to under graduate courses in the University and its colleges except in professional courses where regulatory body prescribes minimum age requirement (such asMCI, AICTE, etc,)

Prospectus along with Application Form can be obtained from the selected branches of Axis Bank on payment of Rs.250/- (List of AXIS Bank Branches for sale of Prospectus) or by post enclosing a DD of Rs.350/- in favour of NIFT, New Delhi from all NIFT Centres. You can also apply online. You will need to provide certain details from the DD at the time of online submission of application form. You must have the Demand Draft ready before filling up the application form.

Admission process:

All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the Examination Centres opted by them. The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted.

The objective type tests are subject to negative marking. The negative marking will apply at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

All candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance tests. Candidates for the design programs will undergo a Creative Ability Test and a General Ability Test. Technology and Management students will undergo a Managerial Ability test and General Ability Test.

Applications are invited from Indian Citizens and certain other categories of persons for appointments to the following posts. The details of the posts are as follows :

Officers in Grade ‘B’ : 79 posts (UR-39,SC-11,ST-6, OBC-23) (PH-7)

Qualification :

(i) A First Class Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent grade OR (ii) A Second Class Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade OR (iii) A Doctorate Degree with 50% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent grade OR (iv) Chartered/ Cost Accountant/ Company Secretary (ACS) with a Bachelor’s Degree OR (v) A Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM only. (SC/ ST/ VH/ HI candidates having second class with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in Bachelor’s Degree examination OR having a Post-graduate Degree or equivalent recognized qualification, are eligible to apply)

Application Fee :

Candidates should write their name and address on the reverse of the Demand Draft and in the space provided for the purpose on the Postal Orders (if fee is payable) and enclose them to the application with a pin (should not be stapled). How to Apply :

Scheme of Selection

Selection will be through Written Examinations (WE) and Interview.  ‘WE’ will be held in two phases as under:

i) Phase  I (Objective Type Test): This Paper of 3 hours duration for 200 marks will be held on Sunday, the October 11, 2009.  The Paper consists tests of i) General Awareness ii) English Language iii) Quantitative Aptitude and iv) Reasoning.  Candidates have to secure minimum marks separately for each test as prescribed by the Board.  Roll No. of the successful candidates are likely to be published around November 2009 in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar and on the RBI website and a brief notice thereof in leading newspapers.

ii) Phase II (Descriptive Type Test): The  Phase II Examination will be conducted in early 2010 only for those candidates who are successful in Phase I (Objective Type Test).  The date and time-table will be intimated to the candidates concerned at the appropriate time.  The Examination will consist of three Descriptive Type papers –

1) Paper I – English  2) Paper II – Economic and Social Issues  and 3)  Paper III – Finance and Management.  Each of these papers is of 3 hours duration carrying 100 marks.

NOTE: Phase I (except the test of English) and Papers II and III of Phase II will be set bilingually in Hindi and English.  Phase I is Objective Type and only marking the correct choice is required.  However, Papers II and III of Phase II can be answered either wholly in Hindi or English at the candidate’s option

Number of attempts:

Candidates belonging to Unreserved Category, who had already appeared four times for ‘WE’ for this post in the past, are not eligible to apply.  No such restriction to candidates belonging to SC\ST\OBC\PH, if the posts are reserved for them.
